Vincent Straub. Modern state of mind, 2016
Modern state of mind is a series of conceptual digital images designed to be projected on large screen in a dark room or viewed on a mobile phone at night, preferably alone in bed.
Each image takes its cue from the world of internet memes, images typically humorous in nature, that are copied and spread rapidly by online users, often with slight variations.
The image from which the series takes its name was exhibited as part of the group exhibition βWhat is the future?β in the Turbine Hall, Tate Modern, in London during June 2016
Drawing on the absurd and often comedic nature of memes, each work reflects on the themes of loneliness, mental illness, polarisation and digital consupmtion.
