Releasement (2018) is a non-linear visual meditation on the state of existence in ‘technologically-advanced’ societies. Taking inspiration from the work of German philosopher Martin Heidegger, in particular his concept of ‘Gelassenheit’ (translated as releasement), the work purposely avoids the attempt to offer a clear explanation of how we’ve gotten to this point in time and what must be done. Rather, it aims to simply explore how a “technological way of seeing” the world, in Heidigger’s phrasing (The Question Concerning Technology), has come to dominate modern life and what the consequences seem to be.
